Number Two Underrated Free Agent – Anquan Boldin
While Anquan Boldin could end up being one of the more expensive underrated free agents, this would be a terrific signing by the Kansas City Chiefs.
As I mentioned on the Rueben Randle slide, the Chiefs are in dire need of a number two receiver. It’s not that I don’t like Chris Conley or Albert Wilson, but neither are ready for that number two job, and it showed last season.
If the Chiefs can get just one more legit weapon to join Maclin, Jamaal Charles, and Travis Kelce, then this offense could be really scary. Boldin could provide that.
Boldin is coming off of a 789 receiving yard season to go along with four touchdowns. He’s played for three teams in his NFL career and has shown that he can still hang with the big boys.
If the Chiefs can get just one more legit weapon to join Maclin, Jamaal Charles, and Travis Kelce, then this offense could be really scary.
The biggest factor for Boldin is his age. He’s currently 35 years old and will turn 36 in October. That means the Chiefs would probably only give him a one-year deal, but with Conley and Wilson waiting in the wings, that could end up being the perfect amount of time.
In Boldin’s three seasons with the 49ers (his most recent team), he had over 1,000 yards twice and had 16 touchdowns. He could be the perfect fit in the right system, and I think he and Alex Smith would work well together.
