Number Three Underrated Free Agent – James Laurinaitis

The second Ram to appear on this list is James Laurinaitis, a former second round pick in 2009. While his name won’t grab many people’s attention, Laurinaitis is a good leader on defense and has the veteran presence that the Chiefs defense could really use.

  • This offseason is all about trying to keep the defense as solid as possible, but that will be difficult to do with some of the bigger names possibly leaving. James Laurinaitis spent seven seasons with the St. Louis Rams, and while the now Los Angeles Rams released him not too long ago, he still has gas left in the tank.

    From NFL.com,

"Known as a good leader, Laurinaitis just didn’t make enough plays the last few years in St. Louis. He’s a stop-gap pickup."

The Chiefs have Justin Houston and Dee Ford slated to start in 2016, and Tamba Hali’s future is up in the air at this point. Having someone like Laurinaitis around could be a good idea in case Ford still can’t figure it out on the field.

Again, this wouldn’t be a signing that would turn many heads, but it could be a smart signing and provide depth to the Chiefs roster.
