KC Royals: Spring Training Overreactions From Game Two
By Scott Dillon
The KC Royals are experiencing their longest losing streak so far this spring. After dropping a second straight game, what overreactions abound?
Well the Royals aren’t off to a great start in trying to defend their crown. They’re 0-2 in Spring Training and have failed to score a run in 16 of the 18 innings of play. That would be somewhat discouraging if any of it actually mattered.
These games simply do not matter. Okay, that’s not exactly true either. They are good for the players to get reps and get some in-game experience, but the final outcome of the game isn’t all that important.
There is good news from game two. No one left the game hurt for the Royals which is one player better than they did in game one.
They also didn’t play Lorenzo Cain, Alex Gordon, Salvador Perez, or Alcides Escobar. All of those players are going to be in the regular lineup and it’s just another reason that this loss doesn’t mean anything.
Anytime a team gets shutout and blown out in the same game, there is going to be some nay-saying and some doubt is going to start to creep into some minds. Spring Training is the perfect time to overreact to every little thing that goes wrong. If nothing else, it takes the sting out of losing.
I followed up game one of Spring Training with a few ‘overreactions’ and a few more sprang to mind following game two. Let’s take a look at just how ‘bad’ the Royals’ season is going to be based off of their two Spring Training games (Keep in mind this is all in jest).
