The Kansas City Chiefs have had 13 head coaches in their existence, and only four have had winning records during their time on the sidelines.

Originally when deciding to write this post in 2016, I easily listed Hank Stram, Marty Schottenheimer, and Dick Vermeil. Andy Reid was a pretty easy choice too, even though he had only won one playoff game at that point in time.

Cunningham was the tricky one though. He had a .500 record, but only coached for two seasons, which isn’t very good. Had he coached one more season, it’s extremely likely that he’d have posted a losing record while a head coach in Kansas City.

It is promising to see that one of the head coaches on this list is the current coach of the Chiefs. That shows that he can still add to his resume and possibly become the greatest of all time.

Andy Reid has turned things around for Chiefs football. He’s transformed the team into perennial winners in the regular season, something that fans hadn’t seen since the Marty Schottenheimer days. His Super Bowl title in the 2019 season was enough to get him into the No. 2 spot over Schottenheimer.

Speaking of Schottenheimer, he’s another Kansas City great and had he been able to lead the team to a Super Bowl, he’d definitely be in discussion for the best of all time. Unfortunately, that playoff loss streak began with Schottenheimer in 1994.
