KC Chiefs Select Local Product In 2016 NFL Mock Draft
By Scott Dillon
Round 6 – Pick 28: T.J. Green, Safety (Clemson)
The KC Chiefs locked up free agent safety Eric Berry by placing the franchise tag on him. They may be losing Tyvon Branch and Husain Abdullah though, so drafting a safety isn’t a bad thing.
T.J. Green is a converted wide receiver. His greatest strength is his speed and he recently became the fastest safety ever officially recorded in the 40 yard dash at the NFL combine.
T.J. Green Combine Results
- 40 Yard Dash: 4.34 seconds
- Bench Press: 13 reps
- Broad Jump: 129 inches
- Vertical Jump: 35.5 inches
Green finished first at the safety position in the 40 yard dash. He also finished second in the broad jump, and eighth in the vertical jump.
See what NFL.com has to say about the speedy T.J. Green:
"Flashes man cover ability with length, speed, and balls skills associated with being a former receiver. Asked to walk down into the box and handle run support duties from time to time. Lightning fast blitzer who can factor off the slot. Patterns his game after Chiefs safety Eric Berry. Green’s coverage potential is evident, but he might need time on the bench to watch and learn early on."
If the NFL thinks T.J. Green needs to sit the bench and learn how to become an effective player, who better for him to sit behind than Eric Berry?
He already ‘models his game’ after Eric Berry. Eric Berry is already an inspiration for multiple reasons, but if T.J. Green is willing to come in and listen, he may be worth a flyer in the late rounds.
Sixth-round picks don’t always hit, but if he becomes successful, he could be one of the better picks of this Chiefs’ draft class.
