Filling Out The Rotation

The KC Royals would appear to have the top three spots in the rotation filled out. The rest of the rotation remains a relative mystery, but options abound.

The front three starters figure to be Yordano Ventura, Edinson Volquez, and Ian Kennedy. Volquez had a solid season for the Royals last season and Ventura seemed to mature as the season went on.

Kennedy will look to rebound to some of his former success and prove a lot of people wrong. He is widely believed to have been given one of the worst contracts of the off-season.

Outside of those three, the Royals have a lot of candidates to choose from.

Dillon Gee could turn out to be a dark horse candidate for the Royals and could prove to be yet another savvy addition by Dayton Moore.

Kris Medlen, Chris Young, Danny Duffy, Dillon Gee, Miguel Almonte, and Kyle Zimmer could all see a chance to start for the Royals at some point this season. Having depth at starting pitcher is never a bad thing.

Kris Medlen, Chris Young, and Danny Duffy would appear to have the inside track on being the main competitors for the spot early on. Dillon Gee could turn out to be a dark horse candidate for the Royals and could prove to be yet another savvy addition by Dayton Moore.

According to Rustin Dodd, Ned Yost thinks Kris Medlen will be a ‘solid’ play in the rotation. If the skipper is already set on Medlen starting, then it’s unlikely he’ll be sent to the bullpen.

A while ago, KC Kingdom put out a piece that projected the starting rotation for the coming season. It will be fun to reflect on as Spring Training wears on.
