Round 2 – Pick 28: Sheldon Day, Defensive Tackle (Notre Dame)

After making a big selection in the first round, the KC Chiefs switch to the defensive side of the ball in round two, where they take defensive tackle Sheldon Day.

  • Day has the ability to play both defensive tackle and defensive end, which would be huge for Kansas City. Mike DeVito and Jaye Howard are both hitting free agency, therefore, having Day available to fill either of these guys’ voids would be terrific.

Day only had seven and a half sacks in four years at Notre Dame, but four of them came last season. He also forced two fumbles his senior year.

Day is considered to be a top 15 defensive lineman prospect and could go anywhere in the second or third round. He could fill a hole for several teams due to his flexibility at defensive end and at defensive tackle.

If the Chiefs lose both DeVito and Howard to free agency (I’m assuming they’ll lose at least one of these two), then Sheldon Day could end up being a starter in 2016.
