Round 1 – Pick 28: Ezekiel Elliott, Running Back (Ohio State)

In an unexpected turn of events, the Kansas City Chiefs select Ezekiel Elliott with their first round pick in this mock draft. A lot of Chiefs fans would be pretty upset with this pick if it did happen, but there are plenty of reasons why a pick this shocking would make sense.

He’s considered the best running back available in this draft, and while running back isn’t an immediate need for the Chiefs, we have no idea how Charles is going to bounce back from his second ACL tear.

  1. Jamaal Charles is coming off of his second ACL tear in just a five-year span.
  2. Jamaal Charles is going to turn 30 during the 2016 season.
  3. While Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West filled in nicely in Charles’ absence, it was apparent near the end of the season that opposing defenses were beginning to figure them out. Having them as a duo in the future might not be in the team’s best interest.
  4. Knile Davis didn’t do much last year and it’s unlikely he’ll even be with the Chiefs this season.

All of these reasons along with the dynamite ability that Ezekiel Elliott brings is why the Chiefs go with him as their first round pick.

Elliott, a junior out of Ohio State, is originally from Missouri. His dad played for the University of Missouri, and Elliott was slated to attend there as well, but later opted to be a member of the Ohio State Buckeyes.

He’s considered the best running back available in this draft, and while running back isn’t an immediate need for the Chiefs, we have no idea how Charles is going to bounce back from his second ACL tear. Even if he’s completely fine, he probably only has a few more decent seasons in him, so this pick could work out in the long run.

Elliott had 43 touchdowns in three seasons at Ohio State, including 23 last season. He’s also rushed for a total of 3,961 yards in three seasons. Not to mention, he was on the Buckeyes squad that won it all in the 2014 season.
