KC Royals: Top Ten Web Gems 2015 Regular Season
By Scott Dillon
Number 6: Colon’s Force Out Double Play
Tigers at Royals, May 3rd
The Royals’ Gold Glove winning shortstop was on the bench dealing with some bumps and bruises. He had taken a pitch off the left ear-hole and had a left cheek contusion.
He was on the seven-day disabled list with a concussion as a result of the pitch. It’s the first time last season Escobar saw chin music, but this one seemed unintentional.
With a runner on second base and a fill-in player at shortstop the Royals got a web gem caliber play. Their backups made a habit of that this past season.
This double play was anything but conventional as Omar Infante had to tag the runner out and then throw the ball across the diamond. He barely nabbed the runner at first with that ailing arm of his.
While Omar and Christian may be going at it in a friendly competition this spring, they were in perfect harmony on this play.
