Kansas City Royals: Walk Out Songs For Pitchers
Luke Hochevar
Luke Hochevar has had a whirlwind of a career.
After a dominating campaign at Tennessee, Hoch earned the top overall pick of the 2006 amateur draft, ahead of household names like Evan Longoria, Clayton Kershaw, and Max Scherzer. Results never quite met up with expectations though.
While there were glimmers of brilliance, his five years in the rotation consisted of three ERAs above 5.50, and not one below 4.50. In fact, his career ERA still rests above 5.00.
Finally, the Royals moved him to the bullpen in 2013 and he found stunning success as a set-up man for Greg Holland.
After all those years struggling in the pen, Hoch stuck with it and found his true calling. Unfortunately, devastating news struck prior to the 2014 season that Tommy John surgery would be required, leading Hoch to miss the Royals first magical playoff run.
Hochevar’s song is Aaliyah’s “Try Again”, as not just once, but twice Luke Hochevar has rebuilt himself, first having to “dust off” after his underachieving career as a starter, and most recently finding success post-Tommy John success in 2015.
Hochevar’s nine scoreless innings in the 2015 playoffs, culminating in the two innings prior to Wade Davis’ Game 5 World Series close, should more than make up for any shortcomings in Hochevar’s past.
