Kansas City Royals: Walk Out Songs For Pitchers
Chris Young
Chris Young is the 36 year old right-handed pitcher for the Kansas City Royals. He had a big season for the Royals in 2015 operating primarily as a ‘swing man’ who was effective in relief and in the starting rotation.
His fastball, if you can call it that, blazes through the strike zone at a whopping 89 miles per hour, but it’s his slider that get’s people to swing and miss. His Royals’ teammates have dubbed his pitches the ‘Invisiball’ because it just disappears on them.
When the Royals needed him to step up and make a start he generally didn’t disappoint. Though he did look worn out by mid-season, he came back strong at the end of the year when he was given adequate rest. When he’s rested he looks like a young man (pun intended).
He was very effective for the Royals in the playoffs. In game one of the ALDS he struck out seven batters in only four innings of work. He wound up striking out 17 batters in the playoffs. That’s more than double the amount of hits he gave up.
His ability to keep fooling hitters and defy both his injuries and his age has earned him the walk-out song “Forever Young” by Rod Stewart.
Whether or not Young can repeat his success in 2015 remains to be seen, but he will be a fondly remember part of the 2015 season.
