Yordano Ventura

Yordano Ventura is one of the most energetic pitchers on the Royals’ roster and he plays with a lot of emotion.

In 2014, the Royals saw him use his emotion to enhance his ability. When his friend, Oscar Taveras, was tragically killed in a car accident only a few days before game six of the World Series, Ventura dedicated the game to Taveras. With a tribute to his recently departed friend on his cap, Ventura pitchted one of the best games of his career.

Ventura only gave up three hits in that game and kept the Giants scoreless through seven innings of work. He did allow five free passes which is something he does a lot more than the ‘Ace’ of a staff should do.

2015 got the better of Ventura’s emotions at the beginning of the season. His wild and erratic behavior over the first couple of months of play has earned him the song “Wild Thing” by The Troggs.

While he started his season as somewhat of a ‘Wild Thing’ he calmed down in the second half of the season. That’s one of the reasons this song makes sense. The lyrics “You make everything groovy” speak to his 8-1 record down the stretch in 2015. If nothing else, he did make things ‘groovy’ in the second-half of the season.
