KC Royals: Five Bold Predictions For 2016
By Scott Dillon
The KC Royals seem to keep finding ways to exceed expectations. Will they do it again in 2016?
Last season the KC Royals shocked everyone, except for maybe Royals’ fans, with their level of play. Not only did they avoid the losing record that PECOTA had picked out for them, they finished with the best record in the American League on their way to a World Series win.
The Royals didn’t just flip the projection system on it’s ear, they dominated the regular season. Only twice did they drop four games in a row, while on ten different occasions they won at least four games in a row.
Maybe it was that lack of respect that helped fuel the fire for the Royals last season. They had just finished a mostly dominating postseason run that saw them come up just short of winning a World Series and still couldn’t gain the respect of the baseball world.
This year, Fangraphs.com has projected the Royals to have a losing season. With any luck, this poor outlook will help keep the reigning World Champions humble and keep that chip on their shoulder. If being ‘the underdog’ is what it takes for the Royals to play the style of baseball that they play, then so be it.
What will the Royals’ do this season that will prove their doubters wrong? Here are five bold predictions for the 2016 season.
