KC Chiefs Focus On Offense In 2016 NFL Mock Draft
Round 6 – Pick 28: Blake Martinez (Inside Linebacker, Stanford)
With Derrick Johnson getting older, the Chiefs need to have a man waiting in the wings. That man is Blake Martinez out of Stanford, who is the Chiefs’ sixth round draft pick.
Martinez recorded 255 tackles, six and a half sacks, five interceptions, and forced five fumbles during his four year career at Stanford. He also defended six passes.
Regardless of where they use him, the Chiefs WILL use Blake Martinez, just hopefully they use him effectively, because this kid very well could be the steal of the 2016 NFL Draft.
The point being that Martinez isn’t quite ready to be a starter yet. He very well could be a steal in this draft if the Chiefs use him in the correct way. Let him sit behind DJ, learn the ropes, and when DJ is ready to call it a career, Martinez will be ready to take his place, and make all of Chiefs Kingdom proud.
Martinez is great at defending the run and is always willing to take on a blocker. With the run defense being an area the Chiefs struggled in just a few years back, it’d be nice to have a solid run blocker up the middle.
Some draft scouts see Martinez as a better fit as an outside linebacker, which the Chiefs could opt to do should Hali depart and Dee Ford not pan out.
Regardless of where they use him, the Chiefs WILL use Blake Martinez, just hopefully they use him effectively, because this kid very well could be the steal of the 2016 NFL Draft.
