KC Chiefs Focus On Offense In 2016 NFL Mock Draft
Round 3 – Pick 28: Sterling Shepard (Wide Receiver, Oklahoma)
The KC Chiefs decide to add to their receiving corps by drafting Sterling Shepard in the third round. Shepard stepped up in a big way his senior season with 1,288 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns, as the Oklahoma Sooners rode that momentum all the way to the Orange Bowl.
Shepard flourished under new quarterback Baker Mayfield, and he’s ready to continue being dynamic in the pros. He’s projected as the tenth best receiver in this draft class.
The Chiefs have Jeremy Maclin as the clear cut number one wide receiver on their roster. That’s about where the clear cuts end though, as Albert Wilson and Chris Conley are both number three receivers at best.
While both of those guys would still be the frontrunners to land the number two spot, Shepard would surely give them a run for their money. He’s an absolute nightmare for secondaries to cover and has quick feet. Shepard is just the kind of guy that Andy Reid could use in his offense.

The knock on Shepard is his size. He’s only 5’10” (and when I say only, that’s in football talk) and just under 200 pounds. When corners make contact with Shepard, he struggles to get anything done, which could be problematic considering the Chiefs play Denver twice a year (that defense though…).
This pick would still be decent, as the Chiefs need to beef up their receiving unit. Shepard would give them the chance to have four good receivers for Smith to toss the football to.
The chances of the Chiefs actually drafting three straight offensive positions to kick off the draft are slim. In fact, there could be odds in Vegas offering big bucks for betting on this occurring, but for the sake of this mock draft, just soak it in.
