Round 1 – Pick 28: Jack Conklin (Offensive Tackle, Michigan State)

Poor Alex Smith. The guy hasn’t had the best offensive lines protecting him since he joined the Chiefs back in 2013. He’s constantly having to either rush to get the ball away, or run for his life.

Selecting Jack Conklin in the first round would help the offensive line immensely. Conklin, a junior out of Michigan State, is considered the fourth best tackle in this draft and the 24th best prospect overall. He’ll definitely be a first round choice, and if he slides to pick 28, the Chiefs need to take him.

Conklin has a swagger about him and always is jumping at the opportunity to pick up a block on someone. He’d fit in well with this Chiefs offense, and could be someone that the team leans on for a long time.

At 6’6″ and 318 pounds, Conklin is a huge target for defenders to try and get around. They’ll have a tough time making Smith’s day hell with him up front.

Oh, and he’d fix an offensive line that was ranked 22nd, according to Pro Football Focus.

Some might say this is a safe pick, but why should that bother anyone? The Chiefs haven’t been known to make sexy picks in the past, and this year will be no different.
