Lock Up Those Free Agents

Respect is something that a player has to earn. Several of the Chiefs’ free agents have earned respect from their younger teammates and future teammates. Hopefully, those future teammates are playing for the Chiefs.

I know Super Bowl 50 was painful to watch for most Chiefs’ fans, but there is another thing to learn from the Broncos. Leadership can go a long way.

Reports surfaced early Sunday morning that DeMarcus Ware and Peyton Manning delivered inspiring, teary eyed speeches the night prior to the Super Bowl. What followed was a defense that played like their hair was on fire.

Kansas City fans should already know about the power of teamwork. What can transpire when a team plays for something bigger than themselves is really quite moving.

The Chiefs have players heading into free agency that fit that description in Eric Berry and Derrick Johnson.

He had every excuse in the world to give up and focus on anything other than his team, but he didn’t. That is the kind of thing that can elevate a team to greater heights.

Eric Berry has become an inspiration to the fans and to his teammates. He’s really become an inspiration to everyone around football. Through his entire recovery, Berry’s goal was to return to the football field. He had every excuse in the world to give up and focus on anything other than his team, but he didn’t. That is the kind of thing that can elevate a team to greater heights.

Derrick Johnson is coming off an ailment of his own. Johnson defied his age and an Achilles injury by turning his 2015 season into a Pro-Bowl appearance. His consistent play and strong work ethic are both things that young players can try and emulate.

There are a few other free agents to lock up as well, but keeping the leaders in place should be priority one.
