Have Effective Depth On Defense

The Chiefs’ defense was one of their greatest strengths until it failed them miserably against the Patriots. Their frenzied edge rush failed to do much of anything against Tom Brady.

The Broncos showed the Chiefs what could happen to the Patriots when the blitz was dialed up. Tom Brady got hit 23 times in that game and looked unlike himself throughout the game.

When Justin Houston and Tamba Hali were both playing healthy, the sacks and turnovers ‘flowed like honey’.

When Alex Gordon and Greg Holland went down, the Royals could have lost everything. Instead they’ll be raising a championship banner in a few weeks.

When they didn’t play, the defense really struggled. Any team is going to struggle without one or two of their best players, but great teams are usually great because of their depth.

The KC Royals may never have gotten as far as they did if not for how deep their roster is. When Alex Gordon and Greg Holland went down, the Royals could have lost everything. Instead they’ll be raising a championship banner in a few weeks.

While no Chiefs’ fans want to compliment the Broncos, their depth on Defense can’t go unnoticed. The Broncos defense looked fresh during the entire game in part because of their depth. They could look to young players and backups in key situations without having to worry about a drop off in production.

If there is any doubt that defense can win championships, re-watch Super Bowl 50. Peyton Manning had one of the lowest quarterback ratings of all-time in that game and walked out a champion. No one player should be responsible for a team losing a game (I’m looking at you Knile Davis…not really).
