KC Chiefs: Five Keys To Reaching Super Bowl 51
By Scott Dillon
Add A Solid Number Two Receiver
The Chiefs have a number one receiver in Jeremy Maclin. They have been lacking production from their ‘number one’ wide receiver for several seasons. Dwayne Bowe was brilliant at times, but ultimately unreliable.
Maclin is the kind of player who can help the Chiefs passing game either down the field or in the middle. He can’t do it all by himself though.
Travis Kelce is one of the better receiving tight ends in the league, but he’s not a wide receiver. If Maclin or Kelce go down, their offense becomes predictable and ineffective.
Albert Wilson has proven effective at times but profiles more as a number three. Chris Conley may be able to step into the role of second wide receiver if he can further develop his talent. Until either player can prove himself, the Chiefs have a number one wide receiver and two number threes.
They could also address their needs via free agency. Several free agent wide receivers are available including Jason Avant who made some sparkling plays against the Patriots.
There are several decent wide receivers in the draft. Sterling Shepard is one of the highest graded receivers in the nation, but he’s projected to be available to the Chiefs in some mock drafts as late as the second and even third-rounds.

One name I particularly like is Anquan Boldin. He’s a Super Bowl Champion and can bring some leadership to a young receiving corps. Boldin is 35 years old but is one of the toughest receivers in the game. He will fight for the football and bring an element of grit to this offense.
