Solidify The Offensive Line

ProFootballFocus.com has the Chiefs offensive line ranked 22nd in the league. To be fair, that’s an improvement over the rank of 27th from the previous season.

Mitch Morse had a great rookie season as the Chiefs’ center. He’s already good at picking up blitzes and helping call out blocking assignments and should only get better in time.

Eric Fisher is getting better but would probably benefit from a switch to right tackle. He has graded out a little better at that position.

One of their strengths is Smith’s ability to pick up first downs with his legs. They can’t lose him to injury.

Jeff Allen was ranked as the third best guard in the league last season. The Chiefs need to make sure they don’t lose him in free agency. He’s only 26 years old so he and Mitch Morse give the Chiefs a good start on the interior of the line.

Zach Fulton is a good depth piece on the inside and if Ben Grubbs is healthy the Chiefs may have a really good interior line. They need to address the problems at tackle.

They were decent in run protection but their pass protection was less than desirable. Alex Smith was under-pressure on 37.3 percent of his drop back passes last season. The Chiefs simply have to do a better job protecting their quarterback. One of their strengths is Smith’s ability to pick up first downs with his legs. They can’t lose him to injury.
