Eighth Best Season in Kansas City Chiefs History – 2015 (11-5; Lost Divisional Round)

Now we jump back into present day and the most recent season in the books for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Andy Reid was in his third season as the Chiefs’ head coach and the team had acquired Jeremy Maclin in free agency. They also re-signed Justin Houston to a massive contract, which set the pace on the defense. It was a big offseason for Kansas City, and fans expected nothing less than a playoff appearance and (gasp) a playoff victory!

Once the Royals won the World Series, the Chiefs began to turn things around. In fact, they reeled off ten straight wins to end the regular season and had earned a playoff berth by week 16.

Well, things didn’t get off to a great start in Kansas City. The team managed to win one game in the first six weeks of the season, and things were looking grim. Two of the team’s five losses came in heartbreaking fashion, one in a last second loss to the Broncos in week two, and another in a last second loss to the Bears in week five.

The week two loss saw the Chiefs turn the ball over five times and still nearly win the game, but a costly fumble by Jamaal Charles lost it for them on Thursday Night Football for everyone to see. Speaking of Charles, he was lost for the season after week five, which sucked the life out of everyone in Chiefs Kingdom.

Kansas City was fixating mostly on the Royals anyway, who were once again running wild in the postseason. Once the Royals won the World Series, the Chiefs began to turn things around. In fact, they reeled off ten straight wins to end the regular season and had earned a playoff berth by week 16.

The Wild Card round of the playoffs brought something to Chiefs fans that they hadn’t experienced in over two decades: A playoff win. The Chiefs shut out the Houston Texans 30-0 in the first round of the playoffs, which excited fans to no end.

Unfortunately, the Chiefs lost to New England in the divisional round, but just winning a playoff game proved to be a huge accomplishment for this team, and made the 2015 season one to remember.
