KC Royals: Five Series To Watch In 2016
By Scott Dillon
The Royals are going to have tough match-ups all season long. Every team will have a little extra motivation to try and dethrone the champs.
There really isn’t a bad series to watch for the Royals. They play an exciting brand of baseball and you’re guaranteed a web-gem on almost a nightly basis.
The Royals have a good shot at earning a third straight playoff berth and proving the doubters wrong yet again. Fangraphs.com has them picked to finish fourth in the division and finish below .500. They projected something similar last season and that didn’t turn out too bad.
Ken Rosenthal recently wrote about a ‘human element’ that ‘Saber-sticians’ don’t take into account. In an article that’s worth reading he writes:
"The Royals, of course, rallied against Harvey and the Mets in the ninth to force extra innings, before winning the Series in the 12th inning. Collins accepted the blame immediately, both in his postgame interview with me on FOX and in his larger media session afterward. But in Verducci’s article, Tony La Russa says of Collins’ decision, “He showed guts and he showed … humanity.”"
If there is one story line you can count on for every series, it’s that you will see a degree of humanity not present in some clubhouses. The Royals’ team chemistry has been well documented recently. What they have is rare and ultimately a gift. Take every opportunity to enjoy it while it lasts.
