New York Mets: Opening Day

Baseball has a strange way of giving players or teams a shot at redemption. In 2015, the Royals got their shot at redemption and they took full advantage. This year, the Mets get their shot to put the Royals in a hole from day one.

It should be noted that the schedules were set before the postseason in 2015. That means this series was a complete ‘happy accident’. Again, baseball is strange that way.

This series is going to be wrought with story lines. Opening day is already a thrilling time for baseball fans everywhere. What could be better than getting to relive the World Series win all over again?

Imagine for a moment that Eric Hosmer’s mad dash to home hadn’t worked out. The Royals and Mets would have played their next game in Kansas City. We now get to see what would have happened if they returned.

The last time the Royals and the Mets started a series, it was a best of seven affair. The Royals only needed five games to make that happen but due to the oddities that baseball creates, we get to see a seven game series (kind of).

Imagine for a moment that Eric Hosmer‘s mad dash to home hadn’t worked out. The Royals and Mets would have played their next game in Kansas City. We now get to see what would have happened if they returned.

Would the Royals have sealed the deal in game six? Would the Mets bounce back and disappoint Royals’ fans for a second straight year? Luckily, we’ll never have to actually answer those questions, but it will make for good speculation.

There are all kinds of questions surrounding the opening series for the Royals. Will Matt Harvey try to pitch nine innings? Will Jeurys Familia get his hat turned around by Alex Gordon again? Maybe most pressing, will the Royals get a chance to meet Noah Syndergaard sixty feet, six inches away?

Only time will answer these questions, but this opening series promises intrigue and competitive baseball from day one.
