Kansas City Royals all-time wins leaders: 6. Bret Saberhagen (110 wins)

Old and new Royals fans alike should all know who Bret Saberhagen is, as he’s arguably the best pitcher in Kansas City Royals history. Saberhagen, also known as Sabes, was one of the best players on the 1985 World Series team, and also one of the best players in franchise history.

Sabes was drafted by the Royals in the 19th round of the 1982 draft and pitched for the team for eight years. During his time in Royal blue, Saberhagen received two Cy Young Awards, one in 1985 and another in 1989.

Bret Saberhagen is the first pitcher on this list to have reached 100 wins in a Royals uniform, posting a record of 110-78 during eight years on the mound for Kansas City.

Both seasons were great for Sabes, as he completely dominated the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1985 World Series. He ended the series with a 0.50 ERA in 18 innings pitched and only gave up one run in his two starts. Saberhagen was named the MVP of the 1985 World Series for his dominance on the mound.

The 1989 season was another one of Saberhagen’s best, as he pitched his way to a career-best 2.19 ERA and threw 12 complete games. He also threw a career-high 262.1 innings that year.

Saberhagen came in at number one on Kings of Kauffman’s best pitchers list, and deservedly so. Fans were outraged when the Royals traded him after the 1991 season, but he remains a fan favorite here in Kansas City.

Bret Saberhagen is the first pitcher on this list to have reached 100 wins in a Royals uniform, posting a record of 110-78 during eight years on the mound for Kansas City. We still have five pitchers left though. Can you guess who they are?
