Kansas City Royals all-time wins leaders: 7. Tom Gordon (79 wins)

Tom Gordon, also known as “Flash”, pitched in the majors for an astonishing 21 years. Eight of those years happened to have come as a member of the Kansas City Royals, and those eight years with the Royals were the first eight years of his long career.

While not a great pitcher during his tenure as a Royal, Gordon still cracks this list at number seven, mainly due to the 144 games he started on the mound while in Kansas City. From 1988-1995 (Gordon’s years with the Royals), he posted a 79-71 record, a career ERA of 4.02, and pitched 1,149.2 innings during his eight years as a Royal.

Tom Gordon isn’t remembered for his time as a Kansas City Royal, but he spent eight years in Royal blue.

Gordon became a dominant closer once he moved on to Boston, where he had a career-high 46 saves and 2.72 ERA in 1998. That was the first time Gordon would be voted into the All-Star game (he earned three nods to the game total) and was a member of the 2008 World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies.

Tom Gordon isn’t remembered for his time as a Kansas City Royal, but he spent eight years in Royal blue. He pitched over 1,100 innings for the Royals and started 144 games while in Kansas City.

Gordon might have been a loyal Royal during his tenure in Kansas City, but his son, Nick Gordon, could eventually be squaring off against his father’s old team. Nick Gordon is a shortstop in the Minnesota Twins’ minor league system.

He put his all into each and every game he was on the mound for the Royals, and even though he’s not remembered for being a Royal, Tom Gordon still makes the list at number seven.
