Round 3 – Pick 91: Rashard Higgins (Wide Receiver, Colorado State)

The Chiefs will make their first offensive draft pick in the third round by selecting Rashard Higgins out of Colorado State. The wide receivers in Kansas City did a much better job last season (mostly thanks to Jeremy Maclin), but they could still use help.

Higgins, a 6’2″ standout at Colorado State, could provide the Chiefs yet another weapon in their receiving corp. He’d join the likes of Maclin, Albert Wilson, and last year’s third round pick Chris Conley.

He could provide a boost to this offense and be yet another weapon for Alex Smith. He is good at getting behind defenders and has speed down the stretch.

Higgins was a Consensus All-American in 2014 (his sophomore season) after recording 1,750 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns. While his 2015 campaign wasn’t AS good, it was still impressive. He still had over 1,000 yards receiving, but his touchdowns dwindled to eight.

The thing to keep in mind here is that Higgins had a new quarterback in 2015, as Garrett Grayson entered the draft last year.

Rashard Higgins would be an interesting pick because the Chiefs have proven they’re not fond of drafting wide receivers early (with the exception of Conley). He could provide a boost to this offense and be yet another weapon for Alex Smith. He is good at getting behind defenders and has speed down the stretch.

With three rounds in the books, the Chiefs are still looking to beef up their defense, and that’s what they’ll do in the fourth round.
