Round 2 – Pick 59: Jarran Reed (Defensive Tackle, Alabama)

It was a complete coincidence that the first two Chiefs picks were Alabama guys, but hey… Saban is a hell of a coach and the Crimson Tide are ALWAYS giving good players to the NFL. Also, they did just win a championship, and that’s pretty telling about the players on the team.

Jarran Reed was my second round pick for the Chiefs because they can continue to build on their already terrific defense. The team might be losing Mike DeVito and Jaye Howard in free agency, both who were great at getting to the quarterback and at stopping the run.

Basically, if the Chiefs can steal Reed in the second round, then they need to do it.

If the Chiefs end up losing both DeVito and Howard to other teams, they’re going to need someone who can come in and stop the ball right away. Reed would be a great option for this.

Reed is considered to be the fourth best defensive tackle available in the draft, and he’s projected to go as early as the first round. Basically, if the Chiefs can steal Reed in the second round, then they need to do it.

Reed did not have any missed or broken tackles during his final season at Alabama, and also recorded 57 tackles, defended two passes, and sacked the quarterback once. He’d be a great addition to the current defensive front in Allen Bailey and Dontari Poe (hopefully the Chiefs can at least get DeVito back, as Howard will be tough to re-sign).

So far, both of the Chiefs’ picks have been on defense. That trend ends in the third round.
