KC Chiefs: Grading the 2014 Draft
By Scott Dillon
Round Six: Laurent Duvernay-Tardif
Grade: B-
Let me start by saying the Laurent Duvernay-Tardif is nothing to write home about when it comes to offensive linemen.
He is going to get beat by savvy pass rushers, and he is going to give up some sacks. He’s going to get called for holding when he get’s beat, but he is studying to be a doctor. I think he took an oath not to let people ‘get dead’, and he’ll protect his quarterback if it means a yellow flag.

In spite of the fact that he’s not great, he became a starter for the Chiefs in his second year. The fact that the Chiefs found not one but two starters on the O-Line in the sixth round is very impressive.
The offensive line is a position of need without question. The Chiefs will need to invest in a quality linemen or two in the off-season either through the draft or free agency. While Tardif likely isn’t the answer it could be argued that he’s played at least as well as first-round pick Eric Fisher at times.
John Dorsey did an excellent job in the late rounds of this draft even though some of his earlier picks have yet to see the field all that often. I’d give his overall drafting a B+ for 2014, but I think it was his undrafted free-agents that will boost him up to an ‘A’.
