Number 3 Biggest Surprise Player for the Chiefs – Derrick Johnson

One of the longtime fan favorites in Kansas City, Derrick Johnson, had himself a season in 2015. After rupturing his Achilles in the season opener of the 2014 season, Johnson was in a contract year and was out to prove that he could still play with the young guns.

It truly was a rewarding season for Derrick Johnson, and it was awesome to see the guy finally win a playoff game.

In 16 starts, Johnson amassed 95 tackles, eight defended passes, two interceptions, and forced two fumbles. One would have no idea that Johnson was playing in his 11th NFL season this past year, as the former first round pick (15th overall in 2005) recorded one of his best seasons in the pros.

Johnson was rewarded for his hard work this season by making it to his fourth Pro Bowl (he was an alternate, as Luke Kuechly made it to the Super Bowl and therefore won’t be participating.

It truly was a rewarding season for Derrick Johnson, and it was awesome to see the guy finally win a playoff game. He’d been to the playoffs three other seasons and never got to be on the victorious side of things. This excellent season couldn’t have happened to a better guy, and I’m glad he finally got to taste postseason success.

After losing to the Patriots in the AFC Divisional Round, Johnson said he wanted to stay with the Chiefs. This just further proves that DJ will go down as one of the best players in Kansas City Chiefs history.
