Number 2 Biggest Surprise Player for the Chiefs – Eric Berry

What an inspiration. Eric Berry epitomizes everything that the Kansas City Chiefs are about, and he proved that in 2015 with his inspiring performance.

After being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma near the end of the 2014 season, Berry’s NFL future was up in the air. The kid looked awesome during his first few seasons in the league, but he had to leave football at the end of the 2014 season to get treatment.

As he was running out of the tunnel, Chiefs and Broncos fans were standing up and applauding him. It was a really touching moment, and one you don’t see a lot in professional sports.

Berry proved what a beast he is, as he was back in action by the time training camp rolled around in August. The guy is an inspiration in every way possible, and even non-Chiefs fans were rooting for him to do great things in 2015.

Berry did just that, recording 55 tackles, two interceptions, and defending ten passes. No one questioned this guy’s commitment to his team, to the sport of football, or to anything he does in his life. Eric Berry is absolutely an inspiration for everyone and hopefully other players can lead by the example he’s provided.

The highlight of the season, at least for me, was at the Chiefs’ home opener on Thursday Night Football, and hearing Eric Berry’s name announced in Arrowhead Stadium. As he was running out of the tunnel, Chiefs and Broncos fans were standing up and applauding him. It was a really touching moment, and one you don’t see a lot in professional sports.

What sucks is that Eric Berry is going to be a free agent and will likely demand a big contract. The Chiefs could decide to put the franchise tag on him, but if you ask me, the guy deserves a big contract. He earned every penny of it.
