KC Chiefs: Free Agency Options for 2016
Wes Welker didn’t play much last season as he signed with the St. Louis Rams (now Los Angeles Rams) about halfway through the season. He was let go by the Broncos after he suffered multiple concussions causing him to miss a lot of time.
The market wasn’t big for Welker after the Broncos let him walk but the Rams gave him a chance. He admitted his return was for the love of the game and that he didn’t know when he would want to retire.
Now that he is on the free agent market again, what team would want to sign Welker to a one or two-year deal? There probably aren’t many suitors, but a few good teams that don’t have much depth at the receiver spot would be a perfect fit for the ex-Bronco.
Enter the KC Chiefs.
The Chiefs really only have one proven option at receiver on the roster other than tight end Travis Kelce and that is Jeremy Maclin who was signed to a big free agent deal last off-season. Albert Wilson is the Chiefs current #2 wide out and while he’s been pretty good, adding Welker could give Alex Smith a much more reliable and seasoned option to look to late in games like the Patriots one just a few weeks ago.

Welker has a great playoff history with both the Broncos and the Patriots and could add tremendous knowledge to the Chiefs about their likely foes in the playoffs if they were to return next season. That is, if Peyton Manning returns to the Broncos for the 2017 playoffs.
Overall, Wes Welker could add a lot at a pretty good price considering the fact that he has been injured so much recently and at his age, he won’t find many other suitors to give him much more than a few million.
Welker is a low-risk, high-reward player that should be given one last chance by some team and it might as well be the KC Chiefs.
