Now, onto the good news.

Alex Gordon is BACK! If you recall, and I’m sure you won’t, I wrote a piece on whether re-signing Gordon was a good idea. The last line of that piece still rings true.

  • I absolutely love that Gordon’s back, but am not 100% convinced it was the smartest move for either party. Meanwhile, I’m going to probably order my Gordon jersey in the next few weeks. He’s our heart and soul, and his teammates look at him as the captain of their ship.

It certainly appears Gordon will spend the entirety of his career in Kansas City Royals blue, and that’s something this city loves to embrace. If that proves to be true, I’ll certainly look forward to that Alex Gordon statue going up in the outfield concourse.

Last note on Gordon. There wasn’t a lot of this, but there were some who were tabbing this re-signing as Gordon truly becoming the next George Brett. If, and that’s still a fairly big if, Gordon does spend his entire career with the Royals, that’s really where the similarities stop.

A more accurate comparison would be Frank White. White was an outstanding defensive player, soft-spoken leader, decent hitter, spent entire career with the Royals, and huge fan favorite. Sound familiar?
