KC Chiefs Biggest 2015 Disappointments – Number 4: Chris Conley

The only rookie to appear on this list is none other than wide receiver Chris Conley. Conley, a third-round pick out of Georgia in last year’s draft, was not the impact receiver the Chiefs were hoping he’d be.

With Jeremy Maclin on the roster, things appeared to be better for quarterback Alex Smith when it came to throwing down the field. Maclin gave Smith a trustworthy receiver, and it was something the guy hadn’t had during his time in Kansas City.

With that said, Maclin and Travis Kelce appeared to be Smith’s two favorite targets and the opportunities for Conley seemed to be limited.

That touchdown was pretty much the dagger in the Texans’ chances at making a comeback in that game, so it was a big play.

Conley was supposed to compete for the number two spot with Albert Wilson. Wilson won the job.

Conley went on to only start in five games and had 17 receptions for 199 yards with one touchdown. Not exactly the type of stats one expects to see from their third receiver.

Conley did show up for the playoff game in Houston, where he recorded just one catch, but it went for a touchdown. That touchdown was pretty much the dagger in the Texans’ chances at making a comeback in that game, so it was a big play.

The thing to keep in mind here is that Conley was only a rookie last year. No one expected him to go out there and completely dominate, but fans were hoping to see a little more production out of the former Georgia Bulldog.

Hopefully, he picks it up next season and can become a reliable number two (or three) receiver for Smith and the offense.
