The Royals have a tough battle ahead of them if they want to protect the crown. It likely won’t be a race that anyone runs away with which means good baseball all season long.

Personally, I think the division belongs to anyone. I like the Tigers and the Royals the best to win the division, but everyone has at least a punchers chance. Hopefully the highly contested contests we were supposed to see with the Tigers last season come into play this season.

This season is going to be a dogfight until the end. Hopefully that kind of intensity helps the Royals keep their edge all season long rather than coasting to the end as they did in 2015.

I for one hope that all of the teams in the division are good this year, just not as good as the Royals. When every game means something, it makes it all the more exciting to watch. It’s not as fun come September if you can drop 4 in a row and think it’s no big deal. I hope for some good, competitive baseball all season long. I also hope we don’t endure another scare like we did with Gordon that saw him miss nearly two months of action.

2015 is going to be hard to top, but if the Royals can win the division and head into the post-season looking for a third straight World Series berth, the ride could be even more exciting.
