KC Chiefs Offensive Coordinator Doug Pederson has reportedly agreed to become the Philadelphia Eagles next head coach.

The KC Chiefs take on the New England Patriots on Saturday, January 16th in the second round of the NFL playoffs. With the Chiefs playing so well and succeeding so much recently, people are starting to take notice and Doug Pederson is drawing a lot of interest from around the league.

It has been reported that the Philadelphia Eagles, who just fired Chip Kelly a couple of weeks ago, have agreed to a deal with Pederson to be their next head coach. Pederson obviously will finish the season with the Chiefs because he has played a part in their post-season run thus far.

According to ESPN, an Eagles’ spokesperson addressed the team’s head coaching vacancy with the following statement:

"“We have concluded our search for a head coach. No further interviews are scheduled.”"

You can’t be upset with him as a Chiefs fan because it is simply common sense at the NFL level to take a head coaching job if it becomes available as a coordinator. He is also an ex-Eagles player himself, backing up Eagles Hall of Famer Donovan McNabb for a short time. This was the first time that Pederson was with current Chiefs head coach Andy Reid in their professional careers, starting what would be a good relationship in coaching.

In Philadelphia, Pederson will have to basically start over. While there are plenty of good players on the Eagles’ roster in my opinion, Kelly set them a few years back in trading LeSean McCoy, cutting DeSean Jackson, and letting Jeremy Maclin sign with the Chiefs in his short time with them.

So the question I ask is does he deserve it? Did he do enough in his three years in Kansas City to deserve and NFL head coaching job?

In my opinion, he was a great hire by the Eagles.

When you think about the Chiefs’ offense, it’s not scary by any means and doesn’t put up big numbers, but with all the injuries that the Chiefs have had to deal with over the last few seasons, they have played pretty well on offense. With Jamaal going down this year, Maclin missing time, the struggling offensive line, etc. Pederson has had to adjust the offense basically every week.

Now that the Chiefs are on their second 9+ game winning streak in the last three seasons, people are starting to take notice of the Chiefs and obviously their coaching staff as well.
