Number 4: ALCS Game 2

Final Score: Royals 6 – Blue Jays 3

The Royals looked to go up two games to none against the Blue Jays and their powerful bats. They had already shut them out the night before and looked to stun the Blue Jays once again. It looked like it might start out the same way as Escobar led off with a first pitch single against David Price. But then David Price did something he hadn’t done much of in the playoffs. He dominated.

David Price retired 18 straight Royals after the lead-off single by Esky. The Blue Jays put up three runs by the time the Royals came to bat in the seventh and David Price didn’t look to be slowing down.

Miscommunication by Ryan Goins and Jose Bautista allowed the ball to drop, and it was enough to make the wheels fall off for David Price

Ben Zobrist slammed his bat down in frustration as he jogged to first base having just popped out to open the the seventh inning, or so he thought. Miscommunication by Ryan Goins and Jose Bautista allowed the ball to drop, and it was enough to make the wheels fall off for David Price.

Hosmer drove in the first run with a single up the middle. Moustakas lined a single into right field to tie, and Alex Gordon doubled to right center to give the Royals the lead. Alex Gordon had struggled in his career against Price, so his two out at bat was even more impressive. This game saw David Price go from masterful to meltdown in a matter of minutes. The relentless Royals had done it again.

Rios and Moustakas put up two more insurance runs and Wade Davis shut the door for the Royals to head to Toronto with a two game advantage in the series. They’d go on to win the series in a game six, that wasn’t a comeback but offered plenty of excitement in itself. The game tying and go-ahead runs were at second and third with no outs for the Jays in that game and Wade Davis found a way to keep them stranded. Again, not a comeback story, but worth mentioning.
