KC Royals: Dayton Moore Reclamation Projects
By Scott Dillon
Kendrys Morales: Hit
Kendrys Morales has been a ‘reclamation project’ ever since he broke his leg celebrating a walk off home run in 2010. It just took him a while to get fixed.
Kendrys Morales couldn’t find a team until 2014 was already underway. When he finally signed with the Twins it was easy to see why.
This ‘reclamation project’ may turn out to be Moore’s biggest gamble as he took a gamble on Morales by giving him not only a shot, but a two year contract.
In 2014, Morales put up a combined slash line of .218/.274/.338. It looked like his career may be over after trying so long to recover a once promising career that was derailed by a freak injury.
Dayton Moore gave Morales a shot at a full spring training when he signed him to a contract. This ‘reclamation project’ may turn out to be Moore’s biggest gamble as he took a gamble on Morales by giving him not only a shot, but a two year contract.
Morales responded to the faith Dayton Moore had in him by hitting 22 home runs and holding a batting average of .290. He also hit 41 doubles and drove in 106 RBIs. If Morales can carry over his 2015 success into 2016 the Royals should be in very good shape at trying to repeat as World Champions.
Not only does continued success increase the Royals odds of repeating, it could cement Morales as Moore’s greatest ‘reclamation project’ to date.
