Alex Rios: Miss

Alex Rios was a miss for Dayton Moore. I recently wrote that the Royals should re-sign him, and I stand by that, but for 2015 he was a miss.

Alex Rios was a former 2 time all-star for the Toronto and has double digit home run totals in nine of his twelve seasons. He hit double digit home runs as recently as 2013 before wrist problems sapped his power.

No matter how unlikely the circumstances that led to his injury in 2015, he found his way onto the disabled list by the end of the seventh game of the season and took until July to really return to form.

His batting average never really struggled and while he’s slowed down, he showed that he was a savvy base runner racking up double digit steals in each from 2010-2014 including 42 in 2013 in which he was only caught 7 times.

Rios injury history was a concern, and everything seemed to be going OK to start the 2015 campaign including an opening day home run. No matter how unlikely the circumstances that led to his injury in 2015, he found his way onto the disabled list by the end of the seventh game of the season and took until July to really return to form.

It was hard to put anyone who was part of the World Series Champions on the ‘miss’ list, but the fact remains that Rios didn’t hit for power and failed to steal double digit bases. If he had a full year last year playing healthy that may be different, but speculation isn’t enough to label someone a ‘hit’
