Mike Moustakas

Until last year I think most Royals fans were ready to write Moose off as another bust. Everyone seemed to know what he needed to do but him and his pull happy approach at the plate was creating more pop ups than home runs or even hits. Maybe it was that fall into the third base dugout during the 2014 ALCS that finally made things click.

Moustakas is the other cornerstone, literally, in Kansas City and it would be nice to find a way to keep him or Hosmer.

Mike Moustakas had a breakout year in 2015 and now the question will be whether or not he can sustain it. Scott Boras represents Moustakas and Hosmer so while the odds of an extension probably aren’t good, I think they have a better shot at extending Moustakas.

The hard part will be figuring out when to begin those discussions. If he can begin 2016 on a tear the Royals would be smart to try and extend him early into the season. We’ve already seen what happens when you try and wait until the final off season prior to free agency to do the negotiating. If Moose makes it to next off season without an extension he will likely become a free agent.

Moustakas is the other cornerstone, literally, in Kansas City and it would be nice to find a way to keep him or Hosmer. Moose might be slightly easier to retain than Hosmer as he’s not quite the superstar that Hosmer is, but he’s still a fan favorite.
