The KC Royals have a slew of players set to become free agents heading into the 2018 season. Luckily, there is a lot of baseball to be played between now and the end of the 2017 season.

Hopefully these next 320-350 games will be as enjoyable as the last, as the Kansas City Royals are in what should be the middle of some stellar play. Two World Series appearances and one trophy in two years isn’t bad (not to mention two American League pennants), and they’ll look to add more in the coming seasons.

Part of that success can be accredited to savvy business decisions by Dayton Moore and the jackpots he’s hit in his reclamation projects over the past few years. There have been some swings and misses of course, but hey, that’s baseball. Perhaps the bulk of the success belongs to the scouting and player development departments.

They’ve provided the KC Royals with a core of players that should keep the team in contention for the next couple of seasons, but what happens when those core players are gone?

The Royals will most likely only be able to hold onto one or two of the core players if any. They may decide to let the scouting and development departments keep them stocked with young talent.

Let’s review some of the key players set to hit the open market in 2018.
