KC Chiefs: Good, Bad, Ugly VS Oakland In Season Finale
The Bad: Mistakes
Okay, this seems like a given, but it’s true. Of course, mistakes are usually bad, but the Chiefs made a lot of crucial ones in this game. In my opinion, there were four really big mistakes in this game (one of which we’ll get to in the ugly segment).
The first was when Alex Smith threw an interception on the first play of a possession. This would have been much worse, but the Chiefs got it right back on an interception by Carr in the end zone.
All three of these mistakes could have cost the Chiefs the game.
The second mistake happened immediately after Kansas City got the ball right back. Smith threw yet another interception, this one right to David Amerson, who took it 20 yards for a pick six. It was Smith’s first two interception game since week two against the Broncos.
The biggest mistake, however, came when Travis Kelce had a holding call called against him, nullifying a 39-yard field goal from Cairo Santos. What happened after that will be mentioned in just a bit, so I won’t go into detail on that yet.
Still though… All three of these mistakes could have cost the Chiefs the game. Kelce has been doing these type of things all season long, and he really needs to knock it off in the playoffs.
Smith’s interceptions, while terrible throws, were rare and really don’t worry me that much. He’s usually very good with the football and those two picks only gave him seven total on the year. I don’t think we need to worry too much about our quarterback throwing picks on Saturday.
Next: What was that?
