The Good: Defense

Okay, so the first half wasn’t ideal for the KC Chiefs defense, but they found their groove in the second half.

The only big knocks I had on the Chiefs D in Baltimore was that they allowed the Ravens to score on their first possession, and that awful Hail Mary they allowed to occur at the end of the first half. Seriously, what was that Hail Mary about? KNOCK THE DAMN BALL DOWN.

Anyway… Onto the actual good points!

Derrick Johnson has astounded me this season with how well he’s come back from his Achilles injury he sustained in last year’s season opener. Johnson continues to be a playmaker on defense and very well could be the MVP of this team come season’s end.

Marcus Peters has been another big factor for the defense. He had two interceptions in this game, and one of those was a pick six that put the game out of reach.

I will say that Peters was getting picked on frequently by Jimmy Clausen in the first half, but he was able to put that behind him and made plays in the second half. His interceptions in the second half ultimately gave Kansas City their eighth straight win and ninth total this season.

Also, how about Jaye Howard, folks? He’s really finding his way with this team. He had one sack on Clausen in the game, and it was great to see him constantly putting pressure on the quarterback, as he’s done quite often this year.

This defense is great. They gave up 14 total points to the Ravens, and shut them out in the second half. Yeah, they haven’t been as dominant without Justin Houston there to force the pressure on the quarterback, but only allowing 14 points to a team on the road? I’ll take it.
