Royals Rumors: Five Pitchers To Target In Free Agency

Colby Lewis is yet another name that isn’t super flashy, but he is another pitcher that screams Royals starter.
While Lewis wouldn’t be a number one, two, or even three starter, he’d make for a prime fourth or fifth candidate in the rotation.
Lewis has spent most of his ten-year career with the Texas Rangers, but did have one-year stints with both the Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics respectively. He did not play major or minor league ball at all in 2005 due to injury.
His 2015 campaign consisted of him throwing 204.2 innings, the most in his career, in 33 starts. He posted a 4.66 ERA when the season was all said and done, but Lewis is an innings eater, and that’s the type of guy the Royals typically seem to go after (Jeremy Guthrie, anyone?).
While Lewis wouldn’t be a number one, two, or even three starter, he’d make for a prime fourth or fifth candidate in the rotation.
As of now, it looks like the Rangers still might be the front runners to land Lewis and that wouldn’t shock anyone. If you’ve pitched somewhere for eight years and it’s working for you and you like it there, why change scenery? Plus, the Rangers had a nice year in 2015, winning the American League West for the first time since 2011.
