KC Chiefs: Is Andy Reid on the Hot Seat

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is arguably one of the best and most recognizable coaches in the entire NFL.

With that being said, if the Chiefs’ struggles continue and they end up missing the playoffs this season, could he be on his way out of Kansas City?

If they miss the playoffs this year, that would make consecutive seasons of no posteason for the Chiefs and their fans. The only time that his Chiefs team has made the playoffs was in his first season in Kansas City. They started the season 9-0, but eventually lost to Andrew Luck and the Colts after being up by 28 points in the early part of the third quarter.

Blowing the 28-point lead was arguably one of the worst losses in the history of the Chiefs’ franchise, and is definitely the worst in younger fan’s lifetimes.

While overall, Reid has done a pretty good job at the helm in Kansas City, missing the playoffs and having struggled the way he did the one time he made the playoffs, I wouldn’t say his job is exactly secure.

This year, the Chiefs are currently sitting at 4-5, tied for second in the AFC West with the Oakland Raiders. The Chiefs are currently on a three game winning streak, earning wins over the Steelers, Lions, and Broncos. Before getting hot, the Chiefs were sitting at 1-5, having one of the worst records in the entire league.

This week, the Chiefs travel to San Diego to take on the Chargers for the first of their two meetings this season. This game is huge for Reid and the Chiefs if they aspire to end up in the playoffs, as they still have two matchups with the much improved Raiders and a game against Rex Ryan’s stingy Bills team still on the schedule.

I believe that if Andy Reid’s job will be secure at the end of the season for the most part whether they make the playoffs or not so long as they can at least make it interesting when in the season’s latter weeks.

If they struggle, and end up losing four-to-five of the remaining seven games, then we could see both general manager John Dorsey and Andy Reid on hot seats. Both are very well proven in the NFL, but this league is all about “what have you done for me lately?”

With two games against the extremely struggling Chargers still on the docket, along with games against the Browns and Ravens still on the schedule, I don’t think the Chiefs will loose more than maybe two or three, but nothing is out of the realm of possibility. Especially for the Chiefs, who seem to have the worst luck sometimes.
