Start ‘Em #3
Stevie Johnson was once upon a time one of the top-10 or so receivers in the NFL back when he played for the Buffalo Bills with now-Jets’ quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. He and Fitzpatrick were a lethal duo and helped each other make pretty good names for themselves around the NFL.
Now Johnson is in San Diego, playing with a better quarterback in Philip Rivers. Rivers is one of the elite NFL quarterbacks today, but has been missing a few of his options throughout the year. He started the year without eventual HOF tight end Antonio Gates and now he is without his #1 option in Keenan Allen, who was put on injured reserve a couple of weeks ago. Starting wide-out Malcolm Floyd has been banged up as well.
With Allen and Floyd out of the lineup, Johnson is now Rivers’ top receiver option left. Johnson should be able to take advantage in Week 11 against the second-to-last ranked Kansas City Chiefs passing defense.
While the Chiefs’ cornerbacks have been pretty good all season, they still seem to allow too many big plays and too many yards. I see Rivers and Johnson being able to take advantage of that this week.
Consider Johnson a good flex play this week, but don’t bench someone who is a normal starter for you in order to get Johnson in the lineup. He could be a real hit-or-miss play this week.
