The Bad: Defense

Any time a team hangs 59 points on you isn’t good. Kansas State had a great defense last year, and it’s disappointing to see them have dropped off so much this season.

This is the most amount of points the Wildcats defense has allowed all season, and they continue to look shaky as the season progresses. In the past few weeks, the Wildcats have given up 52, 55, 23, 31, and now 59 points to their opponents.

They allowed Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes to pass for 384 yards with three touchdowns. They once again didn’t force any turnovers either.

Oh, not to mention, the KSU defense allowed the Red Raiders to score FIVE rushing touchdowns. That goes along with the three that Mahomes passed for. Not a good effort by the Wildcats D and they’ll need to step it up in the coming weeks if they want any shot at breaking .500.

Iowa State isn’t necessarily a team to sleep on, and if the KSU defense plays as poorly as they have been, then the Cyclones will run the score up in no time. Kansas State could be out of the game before they even know what hit them.

It’s also worth noting that the Wildcats haven’t had the lead in a game since they played TCU last month. The poor play of the defense has prevented the Wildcats from being in games. Joe Hubener isn’t the type of quarterback who can be involved in a shootout. He just isn’t.
