Like a precious few other moments in time, I’ll remember exactly where I was when the Kansas City Royals won the 2015 World Series, and became the World Champions of Major League Baseball.
There’s nothing too exciting about it.
I was at home, in my living room, with my two young boys sound asleep upstairs, and my wife struggling to stay awake through another marathon game. Having no one else to celebrate with, and not wanting to wake my boys, I promptly went outside my home and gave myself a few champagne showers.
Doubt had started to enter my mind as the Mets Matt Harvey came back out for the ninth. I was clinging to hope that if we could just get one base-runner, we’d be in business.
Thanks to Lorenzo Cain and Eric Hosmer for getting he rally going, the rest is history. Long, long overdue history.
As I sat there and watched the celebration, in my head I just kept saying “Thank you, thank you, thank you”.
Who was I thanking?
A few special people, none of which were wearing a Royals uniform that night.
