Game 4 of the ALDS was the first time in the postseason where fans saw this come full circle. The eighth inning began with Alex Rios singling off Will Harris. After Rios singled, Alcides Escobar singled, then Ben Zobrist singled, and Lorenzo Cain was able to bring Rios home on yet another single.
The scoring didn’t stop there though even though Harris was removed for Tony Sipp. Eric Hosmer singled off Sipp to score Escobar and the game was 6-4 in favor of Houston. The Kansas City Royals had gotten five straight hits when designated hitter Kendrys Morales stepped up to the plate.
Morales grounded into a fielder’s choice that Carlos Correa misplayed, allowing both Zobrist and Cain to score and tying the game at six runs apiece. After Mike Moustakas struck out, the Royals only had one out and had Hosmer on third base. Alex Gordon grounded out and Hosmer was able to score, giving Kansas City the lead.
That’s right, after trailing 6-2, the Royals took the lead by relying on the guy behind them to advance him and eventually get him back to home plate. The Royals went on to win that game 9-6 and evened the series at two games a piece.
