The Scariest Players in KC Royals History – Number One: Al Hrabosky

This ferocious pitcher only played for the KC Royals for two years – 1978 and 1979 – but his intimidating antics on and around the mound during games made the end of games a blast to witness.

While he was with the Royals, Al Hrabosky sported a beautiful Fu Man Chu mustache, and he would glare in at the batter with a withering scowl. Between batters and pitches, he would stalk around the mound, furiously rubbing down the baseball, psyching himself up by chatting with the ball.

In those two seasons, he won 17 games, saved 31, and accumulated an ERA of 3.28. While his pitching production itself wasn’t spectacular, the show itself was magnificent.

His moniker, the Mad Hungarian, is all you need to know about his style. His antics did not sit well with opposing, players, umpires, or reporters, as he was known to have confrontations with them all.

Royals fans loved Hrabosky, but he had to be a scary pitcher to face as an opponent. He was willing to throw high and inside, and his persona made batters question his sanity.

He is still one of the most entertaining players in Royals history and the number one scariest single player in Royals history.

Enjoy some highlights of the Mad Hungarian.
