The Kansas City Royals made a statement in October.

The boys in blue went on to sweep the Los Angeles Angels in the ALDS and then sweep the Baltimore Orioles in the ALCS to advance to the World Series for the first time since 1985.

While Game 7 of the World Series wasn’t the ending we had all hoped for, there was a lot to be proud of in 2014.

I remember the moment the Royals clinched their spot in the World Series in 2014, as I’m sure all Kansas City natives and Royals fans everywhere do. I was listening to the game at work and as soon as the clock hit five, I darted out the door and headed over to a friend’s to watch the game in person.

When the final out was hit to Mike Moustakas and he tossed it Eric Hosmer‘s way, 29 years of pain and sorrow of watching and following this team were erased for everyone. The Kansas City Royals were going to the World Series, and they did it with an entire city behind them.

While Game 7 of the World Series wasn’t the ending we had all hoped for, there was a lot to be proud of in 2014. This team had come a long way from not amounting to anything in my, and many others’, lifetime.

Fortunately, this team had fight in them and most of the guys were returning in 2015. Game on.
